Athletics
The university fields 17 NCAA Division I varsity sports—eight men’s and nine women’s—that compete in the historic Southern Conference. Ranked first in Alabama, Samford’s athletic teams earned a 98% Graduation Success Rate (GSR) by the NCAA.

Late Comeback Falls Just Short In NCAA Tournament Loss To Kansas
The 13th-seeded Samford men's basketball team nearly erased a 22-point second-half deficit before eventually falling to fourth-seeded Kansas, 93-89, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday evening in the Delta Center.
After an extensive nationwide search, Samford University has announced David Cimbora as its next provost and vice president for academic affairs. Cimbora is currently the executive dean of George Fox University’s Wellness Enterprise. He will begin his tenure at Samford effective July 1.
The Samford University men's basketball team earned its first-ever Southern Conference Tournament title with a hard-fought 76-69 win over ETSU in the championship game Monday evening at Harrah's Cherokee Center.
